Councilwoman Hahn Calls for Tougher Gun Laws

Together with Councilmember Jack Weiss, I am proposing new anti-gun legislation in City Council,  because I believe its time to get tougher on gun restrictions for those who have a history of criminal activity.
 
This proposed new law would do just that by expanding the list of crimes that would keep offenders from purchasing a gun for ten years after they are convicted.
 
Even misdemeanor criminals who have committed non-violent crimes have clearly shown questionable judgment – and that alone is reason enough to take away their right to purchase a gun.
 
Particularly when we know that "gateway"crimes such as burglary, minor gang-related offenses, and misdemeanors such as carrying a concealed weapon often lead to far worse offenses, taking guns out of the hands of these criminals is the responsible thing to do.
 
Two weeks ago, a gunman fired into a crowd at a South LA bus stop, wounding eight people, more than half of them children.  A week before that, near Angeleno
