Councilwoman Hahn Attends Dalmatian American Club Installation

As always, the Dalmatian American Club's 84th Officers and Directors Installation was a very enjoyable evening.
This is always such a great way to celebrate Croatian culture in San Pedro. I am so proud of how multicultural the town is -- it is truly a microcosm of the world, and really makes San Pedro a unique place to live.
Congratulations to Gojko Spralja on his continued presidency, and to Emily Manestar on her third term as the Auxiliary President.

Councilwoman Hahn Attends Brookins Church African American Heritage Month Worship Service

I was honored to be a part of the Brookins AME Church worship service celebrating African American Heritage Month. With the risk of dating myself, I will say that we have witnessed an incredible amount of history in the African American community since I was born.
Thankfully, things have changed a lot for the better since that time. Not only are we experiencing an extraordinary month celebrating the African American legacy – we are celebrating an unprecedented era in history, in which African American leaders – including our President, Barack Obama, our First Lady, Michelle Obama, our Attorney General, Eric Holder, 43 members of Congress, and many other elected and appointed leaders throughout our nation -- are setting the tone for the future of our nation and our world. We have reached a time when we are truly living African American history.
Of course, we still have a long way to go until every African American child has access to the highest quality education, health care and job opportunities that our country has to offer. We are getting there, but we have not yet arrived. That’s why we need to dedicate ourselves to expanding after school programs, mentoring, tutoring, and job training for our young people.
I’d like to take the opportunity during this momentous month to renew my own personal commitment to equal rights and justice for all. To continue on the rapid march forward toward equality for African Americans and for every American. Because as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. so fittingly said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

Councilwoman Hahn Celebrates Opening Day Ceremony of L.A. Yacht Club in San Pedro

On Sunday I attended the opening ceremony of the Los Angeles Yacht Club in San Pedro. I always enjoy being at the yacht club: it's a great chance to take advantage of and enjoy the San Pedro Waterfront. I was also proud to honor this year's new Commodore, Eric Gray.
