Thank You for Coming to My Swearing In!

Thanks to all who attended my swearing in this past Saturday. I could not have done it without the support of each and every one of you! I was honored to have our NEW City Attorney Carmen "Nuch" Trutanich present me, and of course, to have my brother, Superior Court Judge James Hahn, swear me in!

Councilwoman Hahn Attends Lakers Victory Parade!

On June 17, 2009, I participated in the Lakers victory parade in downtown Los Angeles. Isn't it great to have a team of hometown champions? We made sure that private donors enabled the city to co- sponsor the parade without a cost to taxpayers.
Go Lakers!

North Gaffey Street Improvements

June 21, 2009
Recently, I joined the Port and San Pedro community members in the unveiling of beautiful new improvements along North Gaffey Street. What was once a just a strip of dirt is now a great place to stroll, seek shade, enjoy the new landscaping, or just rest on one of the new park benches.
I want to give a special thank you to Diana and Pat Nave and the Northwest San Pedro Neighborhood Council. Without them, this project would not have happened.
Slowly but surely, neighborhood by neighborhood, the city looks better every day!

Councilwoman Hahn Kicks Off Safe Summer Swim Season in Watts

On Saturday, June 20th, I declared the 109th Street pool in Watts officially open for the summer. I was joined by Assemblymember Isadore Hall, members of the LAPD, and community members who have committed to increasing security measures at the pool and surrounding areas. Swimming and playing at the pool during the summer is something that young people look forward to all year long, and they deserve to enjoy it in a safe environment. I am happy to say that this year, we have community security measures in place, and we will have a zero tolerance policy for any sort of violent or disruptive behavior at this pool. I look forward to a fun and safe summer!
Please check out a video from the event here.

Councilwoman Hahn Opens Cheryl Green Community Youth Center

Yesterday, I participated in the opening of the Cheryl Green Community Youth Center in conjunction with the Boys & Girls Club of Harbor Gateway/Torrance. Cheryl’s death really brought to light the fact that young people needed a safe place to go in the community. That's why I worked so hard to secure the funding and donations to make this center a reality. Now, thanks to the new center, boys and girls will be able to benefit from programs that were never available to Cheryl. These kids will have a safe, fun, productive place to learn, play and grow. I can’t think of a more fitting way to honor the memory of Cheryl Green. Again, I extend my appreciation to the community members and business partners who collaborated to make this possible. More information on hours of operation and programs can be found by clicking here .

Councilwoman Hahn Tours City Hall Photo Exhibit With Dr. Arnold Bresky

This week, I visited a photo exhibit on the bridge at City Hall featuring the art work of Dr. Arnold Bresky's patients. Dr. Bresky works with Alzheimers patients, employing art therapy as a treatment tool. Most of his patients have never drawn before, but using his techniques, they produce remarkable drawings, like some of the ones you see in the background here.
