Councilwoman Hahn Advances Wilmington Waterfront Development

July 30, 2009

I am very excited to report that today in City Council, we approved an agreement between Valero and the DWP that will allow Valero to move its tank farm facility to a new location, and removing the final obstacle for completion of the Wilmington Waterfront.

This is an extremely positive step for our Wilmington waterfront, which will finally provide access to the water for Wilmington residents.  It has been a long time coming, but we have finally worked out an agreement that is a win for everyone!

Proposed Medical Marijuana Tax

Today, along with my colleagues, Councilman Dennis Zine and Councilman Bill Rosendahl, I proposed that the City explore the possibility of imposing a tax on medical marijuana. In this current economic crisis, we need to get creative about how we raise funds.  A tax on medical marijuana could generate significant revenue that would enable the city to continue providing services we might otherwise have to cut. It will also help to legitimize the medical marijuana industry here in Los Angeles.

US Attorney General Visits Watts Gang Task Force

July 16, 2009

Yesterday, I welcomed US Attorney General Eric Holder to Watts. Together, we met with Watts Gang Task Force members to talk about our community approach to reducing gang violence. Thanks again to the task force, Attorney General Holder, Mayor Villaraigosa, Chief Bratton, and all of our friends who participated. I hope that our model of involving the community in fighting gangs can be shared across the nation.

Agreement Between the Port of Los Angeles, Gambol Industries and the Los Angeles Conservancy.

July 1, 2009

I am pleased to announce that an agreement has finally been reached between the Port of Los Angeles, shipyard builder Gambol Industries and the Los Angeles Conservancy. Negotiating this agreement was a very involved process for everyone, but it's been worth it, because we have finally paved the way for constructing a shipyard and creating new jobs in San Pedro, without delaying the channel deepening for even one minute. For more information about the agreement click here .
