  • Brought Gang Alternatives Program (GAP) to the City of Los Angeles
  • Fought to pass Proposition A                                                         
  • Instituted Watts Gang Task Force resulting in 50% crime reduction
  • Started task forces in Wilmington and Harbor Gateway to work on crime and neighborhood issues
  • New Harbor Police Station coming soon
  • Secured 750 summer jobs for the youth in the Watts community
  • Sponsored Midnight Basketball League as part of effort to provide constructive nighttime recreational activities in the community
  • Expanded services and improved facilities in Harbor Gateway area
  • Working to build the Cheryl Green Community Center
  • Cracked down on illegal dumping by creation of LAPD/City Attorney task force and increasing penalties for violators
  • Voted every time to hire more police officers and improve compensation
  • Led delegation to Washington DC to ensure port security dollars are allocated based on risk, and that the Port of Los Angeles receives its fair share
